Sparkman Publication honors the life of Bishop Calvin Scott, a man who faithfully supported our publication both in print and online. His support extended beyond the publication itself as he also poured into our marriage initiatives and the work the Lord placed in our hands. Bishop Scott was a kind and generous man who not only contributed articles but also advertised with us and opened the doors of Believers Temple for distribution over many years.

Through his writing, teaching, and presence at events, Bishop Scott gave us the opportunity to witness his integrity, his Christ-like manner, and his genuine heart for people. He was a man who lived what he taught.

I, Marilyn Parker, recall a very difficult time in my journey with the publication when Bishop Scott spoke words that truly changed my life. He said to me, “I want to tell you something from observing you… do not serve the people and forget about yourself.”

That moment stayed with me. What he said let me know that he saw me and understood a part of me that I had not fully acknowledged myself. I believe God revealed that to him so he could speak life into me and gently correct me. It showed me that he genuinely cared about my well-being, not just my work. I appreciated that more than words can express.

When my son was killed, Bishop Scott was one of the first pastors to show up at his funeral. He was not my pastor, yet he made a lasting and meaningful impact on my life. That act of love and presence is something I will never forget.

As my journey continued and I began working with the Urban League as a Program Director, Bishop Scott remained a resource and a blessing. There were times I would call him on behalf of clients, especially when they needed guidance from a strong male voice. Without hesitation, he would make time out of his schedule to meet with them, minister to them, and pour into their lives.

So not only did Bishop Calvin Scott bless my business, he blessed me personally. I know without a doubt that he was a vessel of God in my life. We encounter many people along our journey, but not everyone is placed in our lives with divine purpose. Bishop Scott was.

I along with many will always honor this great man of God. His life, his words, his love for all Gods’ people, and his example will continue to live on in the lives he touched, including mine.

May God continue to bless the work of his hands!
