Disciplining The Next Generation

“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. ”Proverbs 22:6 NKJV

Why does the average church in America, seem to be absent the presence of children, youth, teenagers and millennials? This oft debated issue has been contextualized within a social science framework, as the Post-Modern Era. In an effort to support the notion that Christianity as a whole, is losing its relevance in todays culture, social scientists are now assessing the church’s population and growth as benchmarks for its decline.

Scripture must be the foundation for discerning issues and developing pertinent strategies to address those issues. This issue in particular finds recourse in Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child! This prophetic wisdom was penned by Solomon, who the Bible describes as the wisest man whoever lived. This prophetic utterance was given to parents as an instruction concerning our responsibility to disciple the next generation. This was to be a part of the focal relationship system between parents and children.

Westernized Babylonian Christianity has forsaken this sacredness of sexual purity, marriage, and parenting. Babylonian Churches have sought to take on or have been given the task of entertaining children during “church” and through “Youth Church” constructs that do very little in the way of influencing children to receive Jesus as LORD and to walk in His ways. “Church” has become another tedious obligation for most children who are sent to “church” rather than being discipled by their parents who have embraced and live the tenets of Christianity as a cultural norm in their homes. The forced attendance to Babylonian church gatherings will never replace the strength of seeing your PARENTS walking in humble submission to GOD as the reality of their lives versus a two hour obligation on Sundays.

The impact of having a saved Father in the home that leads and guides their families in the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, worship and servanthood have been well researched and noted. Parents laying a firm foundation in their children is our only way out of the deep moral quagmire, our world finds itself slipping deeper and deeper into. My prayer is that the true church of Jesus Christ would place more emphasis on parenting than gospel skating parties, boutillions and youth camps that are often good activities but lack the sustainable impact of parenting!

Dear Father GOD, let parents station themselves as reservoirs of spiritual truth to their children in this next generation! In Jesus mighty name! AMEN
