"THE CALLING"

Apostle David Rodgers

THE CALLING: Have you ever asked yourself why people can only hear GOD call them to FIVE FOLD MINISTRY, but NEVER hear GOD call them to repentance, service to the poor and homeless, to bring salvation to the lost, to visit the sick who are in hospitals and the bound who are in prison, or to commit to the health and growth of their local church? Why do people always hear the call to be elevated but never hear the call to commit to intercession? This current generation in the church, not just age generation but the entire population, has been seduced by fame, fortune and influence.

It’s sad when you ask a person who believes that they’ve been called into a ministry office but not called to be trained so they even understand the responsibilities of that office. When a person ascribes leadership to a microphone and a crowd, they’re already lost and in need of good education and revelation of servant hood.

Before allowing someone to convince you to accept a ministry office, that you know you’re not qualified to serve in or even have knowledge of, do the following:

1. ASSESS YOUR CURRENT MINISTRY: What do you do NOW? What can we point to in your church that bears the mark of your servant hood? What have you built based on Holy Spirit guidance?

2. ASSESS YOUR KNOWLEDGE: When did you sit down under proven leadership to be trained in said ministry? How much time have you devoted in the scriptures to be clear about your ministry identity?

3. ASSESS YOUR FRUIT: WHO can testify that your ministry has impacted their life at a transformational level? Who have you discipled in the faith who now has a stable relationship and walk with GOD?

SACRIFICE, SERVANTHOOD and SONSHIP are the three callings you must master before diving into ELEVATION, ENTHRONEMEMTS, COMMISIONING, ORDINATION or the other plethora of new fangled terminology used to authorize the unqualified to assume positions they know nothing about. Being able to preach is not a sign that you’re called to LEADERSHIP in MINISTRY. You , know you, better than anyone. If you haven’t even been responsible for your own spiritual growth, how are you going to be responsible for others? If you haven’t served without a ministry appointment, demonstrated consistent honor and have no clear regiment in your relationship with GOD, leave leadership ALONE! I say this in love! A promotion wont change the fact that your service to GOD and His church is non-existent.

And Leaders stop handing out leadership like chocolate chip cookies! Commit to discovering the character and competencies of the people first. People can hardly get to church before “I SEE THE CALL OF GOD FOR THE NATIONS” is pushed down their throats! STOP IT! Too many leaders are falling because they were commissioned prematurely. Having a CALL and being COMMISSIONED are two separate events! Disciple them first! If they are really called, it will be evident in their SERVICE! SELAH

Let’s be honest—Easter, for many, has become just another holiday on the calendar. Bright pastel ads, last-minute retail runs, and overflowing candy aisles often drown out the deeper meaning of the season.

Some people leave a mark on your organization. Others leave a mark on your heart. Pastor Ricky D. Floyd did both. It’s hard to put into words what this man meant to me, to Kings & Priests, and to so many others who were blessed to cross his path.

I was seven the first time I hid a crack pipe. It was used, still warm, and I slid it under the big blue sectional before my big brother could open the door. He was at the front, shaking. “My mom said not to let anybody in,” he kept repeating.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and an opportune time for us to examine where we are as a people as well as a church when it comes to the stigmatization that continues to follow this critical area of our well-being. While society overall has begun trending toward more awareness, there has not been that same movement in churches, especially congregations that are historically houses of worship for people of color.

Marriage is ministry. It’s not about who leads, who follows, who talks louder, or who works harder. It’s about two people walking in agreement under God’s covering, carrying the weight of life together, and building a love that honors the Lord.

When most people think of the Prison Ministry, they think of going inside the correctional facilities. That is my passion, and I’ve done it for forty-seven years; however, I realize that other people find going into a facility intimidating.

To everything, there is a season. As one season comes to a close, another begins. Just as Moses passed the mantle to Joshua, I am honored to pass the mantle of leadership to Evangelist Leandra Green as the new pastor of Believers Temple Word Fellowship.
